From choosing your dress to arriving for your photographs, I help you prepare. Use this guide to plan your date, location, family participation and the essentials to bring.

When should you start planning?

You can contact me during your second trimester. My maternity page uses weeks 30–35 as a photographic planning reference, with the date adapted to your comfort and availability. This is not a deadline or a promise about how you will feel.

If you are further along, tell me how many weeks pregnant you are and we can review the options. If you need photographs for a baby shower, invitation or gift, share the finished-photo deadline too: selection, editing and any printing must fit before that date.

How do I choose the photographs I want to remember?

Choose three photographs you like and note what draws you to each: the dress, light, setting or connection. This helps separate wanting the ocean in your picture from wanting flowing fabric, which may also work in another setting.

Think about the portraits that matter most: on your own, with your partner, with your children or a close detail of hands around your bump. A short priority list helps us give those moments attention. You do not need to prepare a posing catalogue.

How do we coordinate the dress, location and walking route?

My maternity packages include a credit for dress rental through our specialist partner. I help you choose a dress for your style and setting; if you bring your own, I deduct the included rental amount from your package.

I normally work with one dress per outdoor session. Framing, light and the people in your photographs also provide variety. Try the full outfit with your undergarments and check that you can sit and walk comfortably.

Before the session, we agree on the meeting point, route and time. Tell me during planning if you prefer less walking, need to sit or have concerns about changing in a public place. A beautiful setting should also work for your experience.

Have a session in mind? Let’s talk about your ideas.

What should I arrange if children join my maternity session?

Your partner and children can be included alongside individual portraits of you. If both parents will be in front of the camera, I recommend another trusted adult: a grandparent, relative or nanny who can watch the children when they are not participating.

Tell children you will spend some time together and take photographs. They do not need to practise smiling. Share their ages and usual meal and rest times so we can consider those when planning their participation.

Their helper can keep their essentials nearby and look after them while I photograph you or the couple. You will not have to concentrate on posing and supervising a child at the same time.

What should I bring to an outdoor maternity session?

Bring water and snacks you enjoy and normally eat. Pack comfortable shoes for reaching the location, even if you choose different footwear for some portraits. You do not need several bags of accessories.

If you want to include an ultrasound, baby shoes or a meaningful garment, choose one personal detail and let me know. Check whether the ultrasound displays private information you would rather not photograph.

For touch-ups, bring your usual essentials, such as a brush, lip colour or the products used for that day’s makeup. Pack children’s items separately so their helper can find them easily.

  • Water and your usual snacks.
  • Comfortable walking shoes.
  • Undergarments and accessories for the agreed outfit.
  • Your usual touch-up products.
  • Children’s essentials and an adult to supervise them.
  • One meaningful keepsake, if you want to include it.

How do we account for my wellbeing and the weather?

Before the session, tell me if you have experienced dizziness, feel unwell or have guidance from your healthcare professional that affects activity. During photographs, you can ask to stop; you do not need to finish a pose out of politeness.

If dizziness occurs, we stop photographing and you should seek guidance from your healthcare professional. Ongoing or recurring dizziness, or fainting, requires immediate medical attention. Water and snacks are preparation essentials, not a way to decide it is safe to continue.

If it rains, we arrange another date as soon as our calendars allow, as explained on my maternity page. Before leaving home, check the latest message about our meeting time, place and conditions.

When should I enquire and schedule maternity photographs?

I recommend enquiring from the second trimester and using weeks 30–35 as a photography planning reference, depending on your comfort. If you are at week 35 or later, contact me to check availability. Earlier or later dates can be discussed; your bump does not need to look a particular way.

We plan around your intended session week and estimated due date. Tell me if you prefer an earlier session, notice changes earlier in another pregnancy or are expecting twins so we can discuss logistics. This is a photographic reference, not medical advice; your healthcare professional addresses health decisions and restrictions.

How do I plan around a specific delivery date?

Tell me your baby shower, gift or celebration date before booking. We need to allow for the session, selection, editing and any print production. I confirm the schedule in the proposal; a session a few days before an event does not guarantee finished photographs in time.

We also discuss the margin for weather or unexpected changes. Dates close to your due date can leave fewer scheduling options, so we discuss these limits before committing to delivery.

Would a shorter or more extensive session suit me?

A shorter session may suit a few combinations, one location and simple preparation. More time may allow breaks and variety, but does not guarantee better photographs. Tell me your goal and comfort needs so we can discuss the scope; do not assume mini sessions are available without checking.

How do we plan for partners, children and companions?

Tell me who is coming, children’s ages and the combinations you want to keep. We can plan individual, couple and family portraits. Coordinate colors without matching every outfit, and consider naps, travel and children’s comfort. They do not need to smile or participate in the same way throughout.

If your partner dislikes photographs, we can start with a simple interaction. We agree whether children join for part of the session and who looks after them afterward. A friend may help, but we confirm companions and location conditions. Participant limits and any additional cost belong in the proposal.

Can I book maternity photographs at home?

My current maternity and family offering is outdoors. I also offer newborn lifestyle sessions in the comfort of your home. An at-home maternity session is not an advertised service here. You can ask about an idea, but need confirmation before relying on it.

For an in-home newborn session, you do not need a large or magazine-styled home: we discuss the light, space and corners where you feel comfortable. The reference images illustrate the style; they do not represent client sessions photographed by me.

How do we plan around rain, heat or strong wind?

If it rains, we arrange another date around your availability and mine. For heat and wind, we review timing, shade, walking distance and comfort before keeping the plan. A moving dress can look beautiful, but does not justify an uncomfortable session; I cannot guarantee weather.

We agree how to communicate and when to reassess conditions. No universal decision deadline is published. Summer alternatives or different times must still suit access and comfort; a studio is not part of my current offering. Any payment or booking changes follow your agreement.

How do we adapt timing, breaks and poses to my comfort?

Duration is agreed in your proposal. We can plan breaks, short routes and seated portraits; you do not need floor poses or prolonged standing if they are uncomfortable. Tell me beforehand what adaptations you need and share only what is necessary to organize the session.

Bring comfortable footwear, your usual comfort items and agreed accessories. Do not assume unconfirmed clothing, restrooms or support equipment will be provided. If you feel unwell, we stop photographing. Medical restrictions and advice come from your healthcare professional; I adapt the logistics rather than provide medical clearance.

Can I plan maternity and newborn photographs together?

We can plan the memories you want to keep during pregnancy and an in-home newborn lifestyle session. I cannot confirm a combined package or newborn booking before availability and terms are defined. If choosing one session, prioritize the stage you most want to remember.

A before-and-after photograph can be planned through framing, clothing and light without guaranteeing an identical result or an exact birth date. We will agree how to communicate the birth and arrange photographs.

Tell me about the session you have in mind.

Share your preferred date and who will join you. I will contact you to discuss the details, pricing and availability.

An enquiry does not reserve a date or require a payment.
